Yves Bayon is a former student of INSA Lyon, Engineer in Biochemistry, and holder of a Master II in Pharmacology from the University René Descartes Paris, a Doctorate in Biochemistry from INSA Lyon and a Master in Business Administration (MBA) from IAE Lyon.
His thesis focused on the valuation of lipids in placental tissues in the Biochemistry laboratories of INSA Lyon in partnership and with the financial contribution of Imedex, an offshoot of Institut Mérieux / Pasteur Mérieux. He joined Imedex at the end of his thesis defense to continue developing nutraceuticals based on placental fatty acids, from the fermentation of microorganisms, until 1997. He then joined Imedex Biomaterials to contribute to the valuation of the intellectual property portfolio on medical devices, in particular based on collagen. This company became following a series of acquisitions integrated within Medtronic – Sofradim Production, in Trévoux (Ain). He has carried out various missions since, among which, setting up the production of porcine collagen, and development of collagen-based medical devices for the repair or regeneration of soft tissues (eg Parietex ™ Composite mesh and its derivatives). Its missions have widened more recently since the acquisition by Medtronic in 2015, with transversal activities with the historical divisions of Medtronic, in consultancy and internal consulting roles and with activities extended beyond biomaterials, in particular in connection with the digitalization of medical devices (eg. AI-based solutions, e-health applications).
For a long time, in connection with the development activities of the Sofradim Production site, he has played key roles in setting up national and European collaborative projects and / or in their animation. Since 2010, he has also promoted exchanges between academics and industry through more than fifteen symposia for learned societies, TERMIS-EU (Tissue Engineering & Regenerative Medicine International Society), ESB (European Society for Biomaterials). He is also a mentor to ten European start-ups developing implantable medical devices and digital solutions.
