Thierry Vernet got hisPhD in molecular biology and biochemistry at the University Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg (France) in 1981.
He moved to Canada for close to 15 years to work in Ottawa and Montreal for the National Research Council of Canada onmicrobial toxins and protease engineering.
He is now head of the Pneumococcus Group and in charge of technology transfer at the Institute for Structural Biology (CEA; CNRS; UJF) in Grenoble where he works with his collaborators on the biology of pneumococcus with a particular emphasis on the analysis of the mechanisms of cell wall synthesis and morphogenesis, resistance to antibiotics, bacterial division and the role of virulence factors. He has published over 130 refereed papers, reviews and book chapters and is member of various expert committees in France and abroad. His laboratory hosts the RoBioMol service platform of automates dedicated to high through put molecular biology and recombinant soluble and membrane protein production.
