CARROUCELL is a French startup that develops and sells advanced biomaterials for biological applications. Created in 2016, the company is active in the bioassay space and develops complex microcarriers for differentiated cell culture as well as 3D scaffolds for regenerative medicine and tissue repair.

Specialised in bioactive glass composites Carroucell offers a solution-based approach where material is adapted and optimised according to cell culture conditions. The applications include vaccine production, cell-based bioassays and stem cell therapy.

Carroucell is anchored in the Alps in France develops and produces biomaterial using low temperature bioactive glass in which many organic and mineral compounds can be included. The material can be sterilised by gamma irradiation or autoclave. The production method allows quick turnaround time for tailor made composites.

The following solutions are offered:

  • Functionalised biomaterial for cell-based bioassays.

This includes a range of solutions from functionalised inserts for multi-well plates to 3D porous scaffolds.

  • Microcarriers

Microcarriers are available in several formats including form, size and composition. Successful tests have been conducted with mesenchymal cells, macrophages, fibroblasts and glioblastomas. Materials successfully incorporated include ligands, peptides and lipids. Compounds can be included in optimal doses.

  • Future Development

Significant investment in R&D continues through internal efforts and collaborative projects and new developments will emerge in the short to medium term.

  • Customers

Customers include SME’s in the bioassay and cell therapy sectors in Europe and initiatives are underway to certify material for vaccine production in both human and animal health.
