2011/05/09 – The Technological Research Institute « LyonBioTech » jointly developed by Lyonbiopole and Institut Pasteur, is awarded

The Technological Research Institute in infectious diseases called « LyonBioTech » is selected in the framework of “Investments for the Future” programme. LyonBioTech proposes a new public/private partnership model, based on an integrated, interdisciplinary approach to R&D aiming to promote innovation in the study and treatment of infectious disease, for the benefit of the patients. LyonBioTech aims clearly at fostering economic and industrial development. It aims at anchoring the health industries in the Rhône-Alpes area and encouraging the emergence of Medium-Sized enterprises on future sectors, while answering to public health stakes link to infectious diseases (these pathologies kill 14 million people per year around the world).

2011/05/18 – Lyonbiopôle has over 100 members

A promising start of the year for Lyonbiopole gathering more than 100 members, which most of them are small and medium-sized biotechs. Lyonbiopole confirms its ambition and dynamism by supporting SMBs. This union is reinforced thanks to the Technological Research Institute project "LyonBioTech", jointly developed by Lyonbiopole and the Institut Pasteur and recently selected by the General Commission for Investment.

2011/10/07 : SAVE THE DATE

The 5th edition of the Partnering Days will be held on Friday October 7th 2011, at the“ Espace de  l’Ouest Lyonnais”, in Lyon. The aim of this event is to strengthen R&D public/private partnerships between Lyonbiopole's members. Platine Pharma Services

New immunomonitoring company, Platine Pharma Services is following a pre-existing collaborative platform hosted in the Infectious Diseases Center of Lyonbiopole and a co-funding as part of a project selected in the FUI call for project. Platine Pharma Services is a new immunomonitoring company, providing fee-based services to the healthcare industry for the preclinical and clinical development of prophylactic and therapeutic drug candidates, notably those with immune modulation activity such as vaccines, monoclonal antibodies or cytokines. Platine is owned equally by Innate Pharma and Transgene.

2011/07/05 to 2011/07/07 – The French National Research Agency (ANR) organizes the Grand Symposium 2011 of Biology and Health in Lyon

This symposium is intended for teams funded by the ANR, and more broadly to the scientific and medical community. His goal is to provide a general overview of the results obtained with the support of the ANR. These days are also organized to facilitate exchanges between players of different disciplines. Teams that received funding from the ANR under the 2006 and 2007 editions, and some funded in 2008 are invited to present their findings. More than 1,000 partner teams involved in over 500 projects should be present.

2011/06/27 - BIO 2011 International Convention, the World Life Sciences Congress will be held on June, from 27th to 30th, 2011 in Washington DC.

The event, held annually in a major city in the United States or Canada, is organized by the "Biotechnology Industry Organization" (BIO). At BIO, Lyonbiopole will welcome 18 co-exhibiting companies in Rhône-Alpes region on their booth which is cofunded by the Rhône-Alpes Region, the Greater Lyon, Metro of Grenoble and Aderly and in partnership with Lyonbiopole, the Lyon Chamber of Commerce and UbiFrance.

2011/09/16 to 2011/09/21 - Save the date: participate to a collective mission on « Infectious diseases and Immunology »

This mission will be held from 16th to 21st of September 2011 on the US East Coast. It is addressed to every French biotech company that works on infectious diseases and immunology (drug discovery/development, vaccines, biotherapies, diagnostics, CRO/CMO, technology transfer) willing to develop industrial and technological partnerships with US partners.This mission offers the opportunity to participate at the ICAAC congress in Chicago, then at the French Biotech Tour in Boston (meetings and visits of research centers). The mission results from a collaboration between the French Biotech Competitiveness Clusters and is coordinated by Lyonbiopole, the French Ministry of Industry, Ubifrance (French and American offices).

Population growth and ageing, improvement of standards of living ..., make health a major societal issue in China. This mission will allow to discover the activitiy of China in the field of health through the visit of the Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, a special day dedicated to the promotion of biotechnology and medical technology in Rhône-Alpes, the visit of the BIO China International Convention and an individual BtoB program. Lyonbiopole makes available a Volunteer for International Experience in Shanghai in order to facilitate access to the Chinese market.

The sixth Eurostars Cut-Off is now closed. The Registration and Submission systems will reopen for cut-off seven in the near future. The deadline for submission is on September 22th, 2011. Lyonbiopole proposes its expertise to set-up european projects, within its PPTE program.

The FP7 Health Draft Work Programme for 2012 is now available on the Cordis website. It is only an orientation paper, the final version of the programme will be published at the end of July 2011. The Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) will launch its 4th Call for Proposals mid-June 2011. Details of the 7 indicative topics for the 4th Call for proposals are now available. The Open information day will be held on June 17th, 2011 in Brussels. 2011/08/11 - 3rd edition of the Symposium on the Nosocomial infectious diseases

For the second year, Lyonbiopole and the Finovi Foundation will organize on November 8th 2011 at Gerland (location to be confirmed) in collaboration with SHAM (insurance and risk management in health and medical and social sector,) one-day Symposium on Nosocomial Infectious Diseases. 2011/05/19 - Involvement of SHAM in Sepsis program

SHAM, Mutual Insurance Company, specialized in risk management of Health and Medico-Social, commits in the fight against sepsis. 2011/05/31 - Cytheris, ImmunID Technologies and the Centre Léon Bérard announce the start of DivRescue, a collaborative R&D project principally funded by the 11th FUI call for projects (Interministries fund)

The DivRescue project aims to develop a new protocol for cancer patient management, evaluating immune status and, when necessary, stimulating immune reconstitution. This world-first relies on the synergy between the three main actors: two biotechnology companies ImmunID Technologies and Cytheris – leaders in immunology, diagnostics and pharmacy – and the Centre Léon Bérard, a pioneer in research into cancer-related immunosuppression.

2011/05/07 - ERYTECH Pharma, Lyonbiopole’s member, signed an exclusive long term agreement with Teva for the registration, marketing, distribution and sale of Graspa®, the company’s lead product, in Israel.

ERYtech is a leading specialty pharma company developing new high value medicinal products for unmet clinical needs in the field of oncology, haematology and immunology. Graspa® is the company‘s lead product currently in pivotal trial in Europe. Teva leading position, long history in oncology and specialty segment will provide a solid platform for Graspa® and made them an ideal partner for product market introduction in Israel. ERYtech anticipates that first sales could be generated in less than 15 months.

2011/05/17 – Olympus Biotech: the European branch of Olympus will be based in Lyon

On the occasion of the presentation of its annual results, the Japanese expert of image technologies announced the creation of a subsidiary dedicated to regenerative medicine, Olympus Biotech, whose European branch has just been set up in Lyon (20 people). It will develop products for regeneration of tissues such as bone substitutes, artificial dermis or dental products. The group has reached this segment by working with the Japanese lab Kaken, and recently by purchasing a range of products to the U.S. Stryker Biotech. The global goal of Olympus Biotech is to reach one billion dollars in sales between 2016 and 2020, against 60 million today, through its own sales structures

2011/04/18 - Collaboration between Transgene, ChronTech Pharma and Inovio Pharmaceuticals on Heterologous Prime-Boost Therapeutic Vaccination Against Hepatitis C

Transgene S.A. announced  the signature of a collaboration agreement with ChronTech Pharma AB (CTEC.ST) and Inovio Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NYSE Amex: INO) to evaluate a novel therapeutic vaccination strategy against genotype 1 hepatitis C virus (HCV) in a Phase I clinical study. It is common to follow an initial “prime” vaccination with a “boost” of the same vaccine to achieve the required level and durability of immune protection. In this collaboration, the strategy is to use different prime and boost vaccines with the goal of obtaining a clinical effect by inducing different immune responses.

2011/05/09  - Flamel Technologies et Theralpha signs a commercial and collaboration agreement

Theralpha SAS, based in Sophia Antipolis France, announces that it has entered into a joint development program with Flamel Technologies (NASD: FLML) for a Medusa®-enabled, long-acting formulation of Theralpha’s THA-902. The development agreement has been structured to leverage Theralpha’s pioneering intellectual property regarding Acid Sensing Ion Channels (ASICs) and Flamel’s expertise in creating fully bioactive long-acting formulations of peptides, proteins, and other biologics.
