The Albert Bonniot Institute is a founder member of the GIRC: Grenoble Institute of Cancer Research. The Albert Bonniot Institute is a Federative Research Institute (IFR) and it was created in 1999. Since 2007 it has become a Research Centre of both the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) and the Joseph Fourier University (UJF). The Albert Bonniot Institute is also associated to the Grenoble University Hospital (CHU), the French Blood Institute (EFS) and the French National Scientific Research Centre (CNRS). An international scientific committee is in charge of the scientific strategy of the Albert Bonniot Institute.Named INSERM/UJF U823, the Albert Bonniot Institute hosts 13 research teams (242 staff), altogether gathered around the Grenoble University Hospital (CHU), nearby the Biopolis Biotech Center. The research field of the Albert Bonniot Institute revolves around the understanding of basic mechanisms which govern cell and tissue differentiation processes and their pathological malfunctioning, especially in an oncogenic setting. Research has been particularly emphasised on both basic epigenetic studies of standard and pathological genomic programming and the main axes of cell signalling. This basic approach is part of translational studies of tumor initiation and progression that are mainly centered on diagnosis and treatment of hematological malignancies, lung and liver cancer and melanoma which are performed by molecular biomarkers validation, immunological studies and application of nanobiotechnologies. The research teams share state-of-the-art technological core facilities for photonic microscopy, flow cytometry, small animal imaging and proteomics. The teams have also access to structural biology platforms of both the Structural Biology Institute and the European Synchrotron Research Facility. They participate in bioclinical and epidemiological resource centres, such as the Technological and Biological Resource Centre, the Clinical Investigation Centre and the Tumor Bank.

The Albert Bonniot Institute is also willing to further develop its basic and translational research programs by embracing any new collaboration or job applicant offers.

Since 2011, the Albert Bonniot Institute is member of the Grenoble Institute Research for Cancer (GIRC).
